Dr. Jeannette Fresne, Assistant
Professor of Music Dr. Jeannette Fresne holds the Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Texas at Austin, the Master of Music degree from Texas State University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in music education from Arizona State University. Her dissertation, under the direction of Jere Humphreys, was entitled "Schools of the Stamps-Baxter Music and Printing Company: A History from 1926 to 1964," While completing her graduate course work at Arizona State University and Texas State University, she taught courses in music education, piano, and theory. Additional experiences include courses in Orff level I and Kodály levels I-III, Preparing Future Faculty Graduate Fellowship, curriculum writing and teaching in the arts integration program Oasis—Arts in the Desert, and serving as Editorial Assistant of the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education. Before joining the faculty of the University of South Alabama in 2002, Dr. Fresne taught at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2004, Dr. Fresne received a grant from the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and the No Child Left Behind Act to implement an Arts in Education program for teachers in southern Alabama. A former public school teacher at the elementary and high school levels, Dr. Fresne taught elementary music for several years and served as high school choir director. During that time, she also taught applied piano at Seminario Biblico Bautista, as well as piano lessons in her own private studio. Dr. Fresne regularly leads workshops and clinics throughout the United States. She has presented clinic sessions at such conferences as the Arizona Music Educators Association State Conference, the National Symposium for Music Instructional Technology, the National Association of Professional and Graduate Students Conference, the Kodály Summer Program, the Mobile Music Teacher Inservice program, the South Alabama Research and Inservice Center, the Hawaii-Pacific Research Symposium and Music Educators Conference, and the Southern Division MENC Conference. |
