JAG DRUMLINE

Thank you for your interest in the University of South Alabama Marching Band and the Jag' Drumline. The Jag' Drumline fields a full marching percussion section (snares, tenors, bass drums, and cymbals) with a front ensemble, and boasts a modern playing and arranging style. Members are chosen by audition and receive a scholarship. Mike Sammons, Director of Percussion Studies, directs and arranges for the USA Marching Drumline.

Midi files at various practice tempos and explanations for each file are available here on our practice page.  Also, a free, optional audition clinic will be held on the USA campus Saturday, May 15 at the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center.  The clinic is open to all students age 16 and up.  Just call (251)-460-6136 or e-mail msammons@jaguar1.usouthal.edu to let us knpw you want to attend.

Both battery and pit auditions will be held Wednesday through Friday , August 4 through 6, 2010. On Saturday, August 7 through Sunday, August 10, the Jag’ Drumline will hold its annual camp. On Monday, August 8, the USA Marching Band Camp begins. In order to audition, students MUST be enrolled as a FULL-TIME student at the University. You DO NOT have to be a music major or minor to participate in the marching band.

All percussionists must audition / re-audition for the Jag' Drumline. Percussionists accepted as a music major or minor into the USA Department of Music and USA Percussion Studio are automatically placed on the Jag’ Drumline. Every percussionists who gains membership in the USA Marching Band will receive a scholarship.  The University offers many fine academic scholarships as well, especially for students accepted before December 1st.

To be eligible for the best scholarship and admission results, you need to act now. Have you applied to the University of South Alabama yet? USA admissions information and requirements are located at www.southalabama.edu/admissions.  Have you signed up for the ACT, and have you signed up to take it again (the University always takes your best score)?
